CONSULTING ON FORENSIC DNA ANALYSIS
CONSULTING ON FORENSIC DNA ANALYSIS
In 1994, I started my career in Forensic Biology/DNA at the Maryland State Police Crime Laboratory as a Forensic Chemist in the Serology/DNA section. In 1999, I relocated to the Syracuse, NY area and started at the Onondaga County Crime Laboratory as the Senior Scientist of the Forensic Biology/DNA section. At the end of 2020, I decided to leave the laboratory setting and branch out on my own.
During my time as a Forensic Biology/DNA analyst, I performed analysis on thousands of cases of various types such as homicides, sexual assaults, burglaries/robberies, harassments and criminal mischief cases. Many cases that I worked on pertained to cases that would be considered cold cases. I performed analysis on several different types of items of evidence, including evidence that was resubmitted from a previously convicted case at the request of the Innocence Project.
Experience using several different platforms for analysis such as:
Experience with the following DNA typing and STR multiplex kits:
Familiar with several population genetic methods of determining the weight of an individual matching evidence such as:
Experience using the STRmix program for mixture deconvolution and calculation of likelihood ratios.
The DNA analysis specific to your case will be reviewed by a fresh, unbiased set of eyes. Some cases involve mixtures which can run the gambit of simple to complex. Let me explain the context of the DNA profiles, single source or mixture(s), to you in order to assist in determining the weight of the evidence and assist your decisions fo

Let me explain the context of the DNA profiles, single source or mixture(s), to you in order to assist in determining the weight of the evidence and assist your decisions for your case going forward. Any questions you may have will be thoroughly explained in order to allow you to make the best decisions for your case.
I'm willing to discuss the case specifics, including testing completed, testing that is being contemplated, items of evidence analyzed, items of evidence currently not analyzed in order to determine the best steps to take or possible steps that may be undertaken in the future depending on the results. I'm willing to discuss the case specifics, including testing completed, testing that is being contemplated, items of evidence analyzed, items of evidence currently not analyzed in order to determine the best steps to take or possible steps that may be undertaken in the future depending on the results. I can explain the limitations of different types of testing such as autosomal analysis versus Y STR analysis - why one may be better than the other depending on the unique circumstances of your case. Would familial DNA searching or searching ancestry databases assist your investigation? Based on results of analysis completed after consultation are there viable next steps.
Would you or your group benefit from training in specific DNA analysis? Do you need to understand what Autosomal DNA analysis versus Y STR analysis is? What are the benefits and limitations to each type of analysis. What is the COmbined DNA Index System (CODIS) and how does the searching in CODIS differ from the searching in other data

What are the different statistical approaches for forensic DNA analysis and what do they mean? What is mixture deconvolution and how is it performed? I would be willing to create a training specific to any of the above questions or others if needed.
